Tamko Shingle Repair: The Dallas Owner’s Guide

Tamko shingle repair in Dallas typically runs $340 – $920 installed, depending on how many shingles failed, whether the underlayment or decking took water, and how steep or cut-up your roof is. We stock Tamko-compatible Heritage and Elite shingle colors on the truck and can match most Dallas homes same-week, not same-month. Most owners discover a problem the hard way: a small brown stain on the ceiling after a Texas downpour, or shingle granules collecting in the gutter after a windstorm off the plains. The shingle didn’t fail all at once. It lost its seal strip, or a hail stone cracked the fiberglass mat, or the Texas sun baked the adhesive until it let go.

We’re an independent Dallas roofing contractor, not affiliated with Tamko, but we install and repair their shingles alongside GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed. That matters because matching a failed Tamko shingle isn’t just about color. It’s about the sealant chemistry, the exposure width, and how the existing roof was laid. Get any one of those wrong and the repair looks right for six months, then leaks again.

If you know your Tamko shingle is failing and want a written price before anyone climbs a ladder, call (432) 302-5605. Estimates are free, and the technician’s name and photo are sent to you before they arrive.

Which Tamko Models This Applies To

Tamko makes two shingle lines that cover the vast majority of Dallas roofs: the Heritage series (Heritage, Heritage II, Heritage Premium, Heritage Woodgate) and the Elite series (Elite Glass-Seal, Elite 50). Heritage shingles are architectural/laminated with a dimensional profile. Elite shingles are traditional three-tab, which Dallas homeowners rarely install new anymore but still show up on homes built through the early 2000s. If your roof is a three-tab and it’s failing, we’ll tell you straight whether spot repair makes sense or whether you’re chasing leaks on a roof that’s past its service life.

The compatibility gotcha with Tamko, and it trips up even experienced roofers, is the exposure width. Tamko Heritage architectural shingles have a 5-5/8-inch exposure. Certain competitors run 5-7/8. If someone “close enough” patches your Tamko roof with a mismatched exposure, the shingle rows stop lining up, water channels form, and the repair becomes a new leak. We measure before we match, every time.

For OEM versus aftermarket: Tamko doesn’t sell repair shingles directly to homeowners, and regional supply houses in Dallas stock only the top-selling Heritage colors. If the color is discontinued or a slow mover, we source it through our supplier network. We’ll tell you if OEM is available or if an aftermarket architectural shingle with matching dimensions and a verified color swatch is the better call. You’ll know which one you’re getting, in writing, before work starts.

Signs Your Tamko Shingle Repair Is Failing

  • Granules in the gutter or at the downspout. Tamko’s mineral granules protect the asphalt from UV. When they wash off in volume, the shingle’s waterproofing layer is exposed and deteriorating. A couple of granules is normal. A pile that looks like black sand means the shingle is in active failure.
  • Curling or cupping shingle edges. Dallas heat is brutal on sealant. When the adhesive strip breaks down, the shingle corners lift. That lifted edge catches wind, and a 40-mph storm gust peels back entire sections. Once curling starts, it doesn’t stop on its own.
  • A ceiling stain that appears hours after rain. Water moves slowly through a failed shingle, down the decking, and into the attic before it shows up on drywall. By the time you see the stain, the leak has been active for weeks or months. The visible stain is usually not directly under the failed shingle, which is why finding the source takes an experienced eye.
  • Missing shingles after a storm. Tamko shingles carry a 60-year limited warranty, but wind damage is not always covered at full replacement value, and warranty claims on older roofs pay out on a prorated schedule that gets thin past year fifteen. If you lost shingles in a Dallas storm, the immediate fix is a repair that restores the seal, not a warranty fight.
  • Shingles that look “washed out” or lighter than their neighbors. That’s complete granule loss, common on sun-exposed slopes facing west or south in Dallas. The shingle is still there but it’s no longer shielding the roof. This is the quietest failure mode and the one most often missed on home inspections.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what we charge for Tamko shingle repair in Dallas, depending on the scope:

  • 1 – 6 shingles, simple slope, dry decking: $340 – $480
  • 7 – 15 shingles, one section, possible underlayment patch: $480 – $650
  • Full slope replacement (one roof face), with new underlayment: $650 – $920
  • Decking replacement (if the wood is soft or delaminated), per sheet added on: $75 – $110

The price includes removal of the failed shingles, inspection of the underlayment and decking, re-sealing the new shingles to the existing roof, and a written 365-day guarantee on the repair. What drives the range is slope pitch (anything over 6/12 means harness and safety setup time), whether the roof is cut up with valleys and dormers, and whether the decking has taken water. You get a written price before any work starts, and that price doesn’t change unless we both sign off on additional work. Our techs are background-checked, identity-verified, and photo-badged under the Threshold Verified standard, and you’ll see their name and photo before they ring your doorbell.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check the gutters for granules, take photos of visible damage from the ground, and inspect your attic for water stains with a flashlight. That’s useful information for any roofer and costs you nothing. What you shouldn’t do is climb onto a Tamko shingle roof on a Dallas summer day. The shingles get hot enough to soften the asphalt, and a foot slip on loose granules turns a $400 repair into a hospital bill. Roof seams, valley metal, and flashing all have to be interwoven correctly or the repair creates a new leak. Steep roofs especially: a 9/12 pitch looks manageable from the street and is a fall risk from the ridge.

Grant Whitlock has spent nearly two decades working roofs across the Southwest, and he’ll be the first to say that a bad shingle repair costs more than the original problem. If you want it matched right and guaranteed for 365 days, call (432) 302-5605. A live person answers, and the estimate is free.
